The Louvre Post Office
2020 - Paris, France

Renovation of the emblematic Louvre Post Office building into a mixed-use program

48-52 rue du Louvre, Paris 1er

This remarkable 35,000 sq.m. architectural block located on rue du Louvre in Paris, designed by Julien Guadet in 1886 and historically dedicated to the activities of the Post Office, has been entirely redesigned by Dominique Perrault Architecture into an urban program with multiple uses, in order to open up to the city and offer new services to the district.
The original Eiffel-type metal structure has been restored. The monumental stone façades now incorporate a double inner skin consisting of concave bay windows at the level of the existing glazing and a metal sheet for the opaque walls. Inside the island, the building rises gradually to form a roof garden.

Program :
- postal activities (750 sqm.)
- a 5* hotel with 82 rooms and suites
- a 500 sqm. green terrace on the 4th floor
- a 360 sqm. rooftop bar/lounge open to the public with a panoramic view over Paris
- 13 shops (2,150 sqm.)
- an urban logistics hub in the basement (1,000 sqm.)
- offices (10,000 sqm.)
- social housing (1,200 sqm.)
- a police station (2,000 sqm.)
- a day nursery (440 sqm.) and a study room (250 sqm.)
