The project developed by architectural firms CALQ and Lina Ghotmeh Architecture is located in Angers, very close to one of the region’s largest natural parks.
It began with a national call for expressions of interest, organised by the PUCA (interministerial agency for urban planning, construction and architecture) and by the Association for the Development of Wood Buildings for Living ADVIBois.
It is a mixed-use programme including a crèche centre and 70 apartments for first-time buyers. The project demonstrates not only a strong desire to blend into the surrounding environment, but also flexibility in terms of interior layout.
The structure combines a concrete base floor and cores with solid timber CLT interior walls to provide strength, together with a post and beam system and non-load-bearing timber-framed facades. The tallest element is 35 metres high.
